Quick start

You can use NIE with your Newton device to connect to the Internet using an

Ethernet network, an AppleTalk network, a modem, or a serial cable connection.

Once you get everything you need for the type of connection you are making, you’ll

need to install NIE on your Newton device, and then create an Internet setup for

each type of connection.

Follow these steps to quickly use NIE to access the Internet:

1 Get all of the requirements for the type of connection you’re using.

See “Requirements” earlier in this chapter.

2 If necessary, install the NIE software on a Mac OS- or Windows-based computer.

See “Installing the NIE Software Onto Your Computer” earlier in this chapter.

3 Use connection software to install the desired NIE software on your Newton device.

See “Installing the NIE Software Onto Your Newton Device” earlier in this chapter.

4 On your Newton device, open Internet Setup and create an Internet setup for each

type of connection you’re using.

5 Open your Internet software and connect to the Internet.

6 When you’re done, disconnect from the Internet.
